While it is too late to candidate for the elections of the 20 and 21 of October, in the foreseeable future most of the Student Representatives sitting in very important Bodies of the School will change. More precisely the representatives that sits in the following bodies will end their term:

  • Academic Senate: The Academic Senate's function is to make propositions regarding the general scheduling, strategic directions and the coordination of the School's didactic and scientific initiatives.
  • ARDiSS: ARDiSS is the Regional Agency devoted to helping capable and deserving students who lack the financial means to get their University degrees. This representative will sit on a round table together with the Regional Assessor for Instruction and members of the local administrative staff; therefore a very good knowledge of the Italian language is required.
  • School Council: The School Council is the advisory body that gathers all the School professors as well as the representatives of the students, of the researchers and of technical-administrative staff.
    It is the School Council duty to:
    • discuss the Director's annual final balance on the scientific and didactic activity of the School and provide indications on the future lines of action;
    • examine the annual report submitted by the Students Council;
    • formulate opinions, based on the proposal of the Academic Senate, on the activation, the modification or the suppression of Scientific Areas or of other structures, to be submitted to the Board of Directors.
    The School Council generally meets at least once a year on invitation of the Director, or whenever requested by at least one third of its members.
    The School Council, in the restricted composition foreseen by current laws and by the School's regulations that discipline the recruitment procedures of professors and researchers:
    • expresses a non-binding opinion on the announcement of competitions and calls for transfer regarding the positions of full and associate professors and researchers, based on a reasoned proposal by the Academic Senate;
    • formulates proposals on the call for recruitment of full and associate professors and researchers.
  • International Students Representative: The International Students’ Representative shall represent within the Student Council the interests of all foreign students at the School. This responsibility should be understood to complement and supplement, but not replace, the representative duties of any other member of the Student Council with respect to the body of foreign students at the School.
  • Two supplementary Physic Area Representatives: the role of the supplementary representative is to actively participate in the meetings of the area and rise problems relative to students in collaboration with the other area representatives.

Grad School can be a great opportunity to help developing and improving one's own skills in dealing with conflicts, managing complex situations, learning how to deal with the university system…
while being at service of all the SISSA community.

The Students' Council has issued a short vademecum for the students' representatives, for who is considering to join our community, and with most of the important information about how SISSA is run.
